There is a lovely 3 km. hike along Six Mile brook to the bothy. With the help of a generous donation from the McLachlans, the frame for this shelter was largely built by students of Chignecto-Central Regional School Board taught by Andrew Parsons. The frame was erected by students from five schools from as far away as Springhill. Volunteers added the windows and door (donated by Central Supplies) and wall boards. The Grand Opening is a chance to thank those who made this shelter for long-distance hikers possible. After the formalties, a barbecue hot dog lunch will be enjoyed, along with music. Three groups will depart from the bothy: 1) to go directly back to the parking lot, 3 kms.; 2) to take the high road back to the parking lot, the original trail, 3.5 kms; 3) to climb up Dalhousie Mountain and hike 8 more kms. to make the 11 km. loop of the Six Mile Brook Trail.
